Troop 700 traveled to Cloudland Canyon State Park
on Lookout Mountain for 4 days and 3 nights of camping during Spring
break during April. While there, we were able to “See Rock City” and
visit Ruby Falls as well as ride the Incline railcar up and down Lookout
Mountain. Also at Cloudland Canyon State Park, the boys were able to
repel down a canyon wall (thanks to the local fire department’s
expertise), learn orienteering skills using a compass, shoot at archery
targets, and fish using simulators set up by the Department of Natural
Resources. A serpentologist was there with several LIVE venomous
snakes on hand for our education. Fortunately, none of those venomous
snakes were experienced while hiking the Canyon rim. Certainly a
beautiful place to explore, Cloudland Canyon is located in Northwestern
Georgia. We had 11 boys and 6 adults attend the camping trip.
A nice time was had by all!
As school is about to end, we look forward to
Summer Camp at Camp Rainey Mountain. Several of our boys are planning
to attend and work on various merit badges as well as rank advancements.
All new scouts attending should be close to achieving their First Class
rank by the end of camp.
We have three scouts who have been approved for
Eagle Scout service projects so the Summer should be busy completing
community service projects. One other project that our troop will also
be working on is the renovation of our own scout barn. Three merit
badges will be available for completion while working on our barn as the
boys will participate in electrical wiring (electricity badge),
installing flooring (woodworking badge) and basic remodeling (home
repairs badge).
Look for updated Troop 700 reports monthly!
